(CNN Spanish) — The inauguration of Gustavo Petro as president of Colombia, which will take place on August 7 in Bogotá, can be followed on television and the internet through the state media system.
This Sunday, the term of Iván Duque will come to an end and Petro will officially enter the Casa de Nariño, the seat of the Presidency, to hold office until 2026.
The official call to participate in the events organized for the transfer of command is at 10:00 am local time (11:00 am Miami time), although Petro’s possession will begin at 03:00 pm local time. (4:00 p.m. Miami time).
The transfer of power can be seen on television or online. RTVC, the public media system, reported that it will broadcast the event on its screens and also on “digital platforms and social networks”.

Petro’s call to concentrate in the center of Bogotá
Petro and his team have called on the population to attend the center of Bogotá during the inauguration day, where a long list of artistic activities has been organized in eight points: Plaza de Bolívar, Carrera 7 with Calle 12, Carrera 8 with Calle 13, Rosario square, Parque de los Periodistas, Parque Santander, Plaza de las Nieves and Parque de la Independencia. “May all the streets and squares of the center be filled with the owner of the State: the people,” the president-elect wrote in a message accompanying the call.

The change of command is celebrated to coincide with the anniversary of the Battle of Boyacá, the confrontation between the royal troops and the liberators that marked the end of Spanish rule over the territory of what was then New Granada on August 7, 1819 and gave way to the creation of the “Great Colombia” of Simón Bolívar.
Dozens of high-ranking leaders and delegations from various countries have so far confirmed their arrival in the country to accompany the new president.
