(CNN Spanish) — Two journalists were killed and a third was injured early Sunday morning near the municipality of Fundación, in the department of Magdalena, a police source confirmed to CNN.
The deceased are Léiner Montero Ortega, director of the digital radio station Sol Stereo, and Dilia Contreras, digital reporter for the portal La Bocina Col, according to the Magdalena police source.
A third journalist, Joaquín Alberto Gutiérrez, was injured during the attack, perpetrated according to the police by armed men traveling on a motorcycle who fired at the vehicle in which the three communicators were traveling.
The incidents occurred when the journalists were returning from covering the patron saint festivities of Santa Rosa de Lima while traveling to Fundación, added the police source.
The Magdalena Police investigate if it was an attempted robbery or robbery, if there was a dispute situation in the patron saint festivities that they were covering, or if it was a planned attack for reasons of their work.
The journalists, according to the Police, had not reported threats against their lives.
For its part, the non-governmental Foundation for Press Freedom (FLIP) expressed its rejection and repudiation of the murder of the journalists, while calling on the authorities to investigate the case as quickly as possible, taking into account within the investigation the journalistic work of Montero and Contreras.
