Tickets for Machu Picchu are sold out until mid-August

(CNN) — Tickets to visit Machu Picchu are sold out until mid-August, says Peru’s Ministry of Culture, after local and foreign tourists protested this week over not being able to visit the archaeological site.

In a statement published on Wednesdayauthorities said they have met with locals to try to find a solution to the problem, adding that the allowed capacity is already at its maximum limit.

“Given the complaints and inconvenience of national and foreign tourists who arrived in Cusco for the national holidays and could not get a ticket to visit the Llaqta Inca, the director of the Decentralized Directorate of Culture (DDC) of Cusco, Mildred Fernández, He met in Machupicchu with the authorities and the residents, looking for a solution to the problem, informing that the capacity of capacity allowed is already at its maximum limit.

On July 17, the Ministry of Culture officially increased the admission capacity to enter Machu Picchu from 3,044 to 4,044 people per day until December 31.

In a Facebook statement, the ministry said: “This decision took into consideration the conservation of the property, in order to avoid irreparable damage that compromises its outstanding universal value, in accordance with the recommendations that UNESCO issues to the Peruvian State.”

The ministry urged tourists to plan their visit to the Inca city well in advance so as “not to be surprised by non-existent tourist offers and to avoid the crowds that are taking place due to the misinformation generated.”

“We must inform that the tickets to the Llaqta are completely sold out until August 19 of this year, and they are not being sold, neither in Machupicchu nor in any of the official channels,” the statement also indicates.
