Third person arrested in case of attempted murder against Cristina Fernández de Kirchner

(CNN Spanish) — A third person was arrested in the case of the attempted assassination of Argentine Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner on September 1 near her home in Buenos Aires, a source with access to the file told CNN.

This is a friend of Brenda Uliarte, according to that source, who did not offer more details of her identity or if she faces a specific accusation, but did add that her arrest was ruled after the skills that the authorities carried out on Uliarte’s cell phone.

Regarding Uliarte, it is being investigated whether she was an accomplice in the attack allegedly committed by her boyfriend, Fernando Sabag Montiel, the man accused of pointing and triggering a weapon centimeters from Fernández de Kirchner’s face, although no projectile came out.

Sabag Montiel was on saturday august 27 in the vicinity of Fernández de Kirchner’s home, the investigation reveals. It was the night that the vice president spoke to her followers who went to demonstrate in her support to the neighborhood of La Recoleta.

Based on the text messages between the two, it is believed that the man had the intention of carrying out the homicide that night, but that he decided not to do so after evaluating the scenario of the situation, the same source assures.

Investigators believe that Uliarte was supposed to take the weapon to Sabag Montiel, but that he told him not to, that this was not the time, according to the messages.

The two defendants have refused to testify in court, but have reiterated their innocence.

CNN is trying to contact Uliarte’s lawyers to consult them about the new tests carried out on his cell phone, but has not yet received a response.
