(CNN Spanish) — The Mexican plastic artist and muralist Rafael Cauduro died this Sunday, without further details being known about his death, according to a publication on his official social media accounts.

The publication only indicated that he had passed away this Sunday and “the condolences and expressions of affection for his family” were appreciated.

CNN is trying to contact the family for more details about the artist’s death and funeral plans.

Cauduro, who has exhibited his works in galleries around the world, will be remembered for several of his works, Mexican officials said on social media, particularly for his mural for the Supreme Court of Justice in Mexico City “A cry for justice. Seven Major Crimes”, which was completed in 2009.

On Twitter, the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Arturo Zaldívar, said that Cauduro’s death was an “enormous loss for the art of Mexico. His mural in the SCJN will be a permanent cry against injustice.”

The Secretary of Culture of the Government of Mexico, Alejandra Fraustro, indicated on the same social network that “our admired Rafael Cauduro, one of the best plastic artists, one of the most important in the world, has left us his work and his critical gaze reflected in his murals.

The Ministry of Culture of Mexico, for its part, reviewed Cauduro as “one of the most relevant and recognized Mexican artists nationally and internationally, whose work was distinguished by its innovation and experimentation.”

Other Mexican institutions, officials and personalities also mourned the death of the artist on social networks this Sunday.
