Riots in front of the Military Camp in Mexico City during a protest over the Ayotzinapa case

(CNN Spanish) — A group of protesters staged riots this Friday in front of the facilities of Military Camp 1-A of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) in Mexico City, as witnessed by a CNN team that was on the scene.

The incidents began after a demonstration organized outside the military headquarters to demand justice for the disappearance of the 43 Ayotzinapa students in September 2014 in Iguala, Guerrero, and who are part of a national day of protest for the case. .

Images captured by CNN show hooded people beating and tearing down fences, and throwing firecrackers at agents with shields with the legends “Military Police” and “Federal Police.” For their part, the agents used water cannons to disperse the demonstrators.

This Thursday, at least 11 police officers were injured during a protest that took place in front of the Attorney General’s Office in Mexico City as part of a demonstration for the same case, the Ministry of Citizen Security reported in a statement. capital.

The agents were injured by “firecracker splinters and bruises from blows to different parts of the body” after being attacked by some protesters. The wounded police officers were “transferred to a hospital for medical evaluation, where they are out of danger,” the Secretariat said.
