Ombudsman of Peru calls for demonstrations to be peaceful and orderly

(CNN Spanish) –– On the eve of the national strike called for this Thursday in Peru, the Ombudsman’s Office asked that both the public forces and the protesters contribute to carrying it out in a peaceful and orderly manner.

In a statement, the entity stressed that they will continue to monitor the development of the mobilizations. He also called on the competent public institutions to “contribute to the protection of the fundamental rights of citizens.”

So far, at least 50 people have died in the context of recent protests throughout Peru, during which there have been clashes between protesters and law enforcement, and which broke out after the removal of Pedro Castillo as president, which occurred on December 7.
