(Cnn in Spanish) — The Government of Nicaragua took the CNN en Español signal off the air this Thursday at 12:07 am ET, 10:07 pm on Wednesday in the Central American country.
So far, the Nicaraguan government has not commented on why it has taken the CNN en Español signal off the air in the country.
CNN has tried to obtain some communication from both the government and the cable operators that carry the CNN signal in Spanish without obtaining a response.
CNN issued a statement about the air going out of its signal in Nicaragua:
“At CNN en Español we believe in the vital role that freedom of the press plays in a healthy democracy. Today the Government of Nicaragua took down our television signal, denying Nicaraguans news and information from our network, in which they have trusted for over 25 years. CNN en Español will continue to fulfill its responsibility to the Nicaraguan public by offering our news links on CNNEspanol.com, so they can access information not otherwise available. CNN stands behind the reporting of our chain and reaffirms its commitment to truth and transparency”.
Nicaraguan viewers will also be able to see our signal through the CNN en Español YouTube channel.
