Musk pronounces on the “Twitter Files”

(CNN Spanish) — Elon Musk spoke Saturday night about the so-called “Twitter Files,” a lengthy thread of tweets posted by journalist Matt Taibbi, which had been given details of behind-the-scenes discussions about content moderation. on the social network, including the call to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story.

During a two-hour Twitter Spaces session, Musk noted that Taibbi will participate in a second installment of the “Twitter Archives” along with journalist Bari Weiss, but did not give an exact date for when that will take place.

Musk — who claims not to have read the released files — said the impetus for the original tweet thread was what happened in the run-up to the 2020 presidential election and “how much government influence there was.”

Musk also criticized the mainstream media for downplaying the publication of the “Twitter Files,” while accusing news organizations — notably The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post — of “fixing agendas”. He also alleged that news organizations, social media companies, and universities stifle free speech.

During the session, Musk discussed many other issues, including that American citizens, not the government, should be able to decide the fate of Edward Snowden, the former CIA contractor who leaked intelligence in 2013. He also said that Twitter should schedule and monetize the publication of full-length native audio and video.

Musk also said that the social network will launch its new account verifications in the next week.
