The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, promised to process the request of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán’s lawyer to serve his sentence in Mexican territory. However, he would need the US government to agree to the request. In 2019, Guzmán was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years in prison in the US after he was found guilty of all 10 charges he faced, including participation in a criminal enterprise and drug trafficking charges.
