Guillermo Lasso says his melanoma operation “was successful”

(CNN Spanish) — The General Secretariat of Communication of the Presidency of Ecuador reported that Guillermo Lasso returns to the country this Saturday after undergoing a complementary preventive surgical procedure in Houston, Texas, which was successful. Initially, the president’s return was scheduled for Sunday, August 21.
On his Twitter account, Lasso reaffirmed that “the operation to remove the melanoma located in the lower right eyelid was successful.” He added that he is in good health and thanked everyone for their prayers.
In addition, the Presidency of Ecuador stressed that it will continue with its activities from Guayaquil.
At the beginning of the week, the president of Ecuador had confirmed to his cabinet members about his skin cancer after undergoing surgery for an eyelid injury.
This is the second time that Lasso has undergone medical treatment in the US. In June 2021, he underwent a medium-complexity surgical intervention on his spine to remove a cyst in the lumbar area caused by medical malpractice that occurred years ago.
