(Cnn in Spanish) — This Tuesday, the president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, announced that his government presented indications and extreme urgency in Congress for the bill that reduces the working day from 45 to 40 hours a week.
From the Palacio de La Moneda, the Chilean president affirmed that “this is a pro-family project, it is a project that aims at good living and I have no doubt that these improvements are essential means to bring us closer to a new Chile that is fairer and inclusive”.
“How much is a story worth? How much is a song worth at night? How much does it cost to go for a walk, breathe, after the working day? go out to hang out? How much is it worth to spend time with family or time alone, reflecting? That surely does not fit into the standardized productivity indices”, reflected Boric.
The initiative must be reviewed by both chambers of the Chilean congress before being enacted. “I fully trust that parliamentarians will process this project with the speed that Chilean families deserve,” assured the head of state.
