Mario Lubetkin, regional representative for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, FAO, told José Antonio Montenegro that in Latin America and the Caribbean more than 56 million people are in a situation of hunger, but that paradoxically the production of food in the region would allow feeding twice the current population of the region.
