Read Time:1 Minute, 3 Second

(CNN Spanish) — The government of the Dominican Republic invited seven companies to present their projects for the construction of the second stage of the wall that stands on the border with Haiti, the Ministry of Defense reported this Sunday in a release.

The new stage of this project is 110 kilometers long and its purpose is “to control cross-border movement,” the authorities added.

Construction of the first part of the wall began in february this year and consists of 54 kilometers, which are in “advanced execution”.

The second part “will form an adequate infrastructure to regulate the movements of people, vehicles and commerce and the complex social situations that arise around the 391.6 kilometers of the line that separates the territory of both nations,” they mention in the notice.

Just a few days ago, the government of Dominican Republic reported that it would reinforce a border crossing with Haiti with military personnel and would initiate an investigation, after an incident that left a Haitian dead at the hands of a guard from the General Directorate of Customs and later caused disturbances in which two people were injured.
