Debanhi Escobar died of “asphyxiation by suffocation” and there was no evidence of sexual violence, authorities say

(CNN Spanish) — The Mexican authorities reported this Monday that after new investigations by three forensic doctors in the case of the death of the young Debanhi Escobar, it was established that she died of suffocation and that her body was not subjected to sexual violence.

The Nuevo León Attorney General’s Office reported at a press conference that, after performing a second autopsy on Debanhi Escobar’s body, it was determined that the young woman died of suffocation.

“The cause of death of Debanhi Susana Escobar Bazaldúa was due to asphyxiation due to suffocation in her variety of obstruction of respiratory orifices,” said Felipe Edmundo Takajashi Medina, general director of the Institute of Expert Services and Forensic Sciences, at a press conference on Monday. of the Judiciary of Mexico City.

Debanhi Escobar, 18, disappeared on April 8 in the municipality of Escobedo, in the state of Nuevo León, and her body was found 13 days later.

In addition, they reported that “no evidence, any type of injury, or finding that could support sexual violence was found. And the last is that the possibility of suffocation by submersion is completely ruled out,” according to Takajashi.

Three forensic doctors participated in this new study, who determined the new conclusions that were reported this Monday.

Escobar’s body was located on April 21 at the bottom of a cistern tank at a motel in Nueva Castilla, very close to Debanhi’s last known location.

The attorney general of Nuevo León, Gustavo Adolfo Guerrero, said that they will continue to investigate to establish the corresponding responsibilities in the death of the young woman.

Debanhi’s father, Mario Escobar, said this Monday after the press conference of the authorities who continue in his search “for the truth”: “We continue in the struggle to find out what happened to Dehbani.”

Then, in a video published on his social networks, after learning the forensic conclusions, Escobar said that his daughter’s crime is, in his opinion, a “feminicide” and they hope that the authorities will solve the death case. of Debanhi with technical elements that lead to the truth.

On the night of April 21, the authorities of Nuevo León, Mexico, found the body of a woman whose cause of death, they later said, was a “deep skull contusion,” according to scientific evidence cited by the Attorney General of Justice of Nuevo León. Lion.

The young Mexican was last seen on April 8 at night on the Laredo highway, at the height of the Nuevo Castilla neighborhood, in the municipality of Escobedo, Nuevo León. According to the version of the authorities, Debanhi came from a party and got out of an Uber on the Nuevo Laredo highway.

According to information from the Nuevo León Attorney General’s Office, the private transport driver stated that the 18-year-old girl “got out of the vehicle at Carrera Vía Numancia and Carretera Vía Laredo at approximately 4:24 am.”

The 18-year-old girl was last seen through a video recording on the side of a transport company. The State Prosecutor’s Office indicates that at approximately 4:30 am she went to the transport company to try to communicate with someone “without being able to be attended by employees of the place, without having any subsequent record of the whereabouts of she”.
