Costa Rica facilitates the entry of migrants for crops

(CNN Spanish) — Costa Rica adds a window at the Tablillas post, in the north of the country on the border with Nicaragua, for the entry of migrant workers for the crops. This is in addition to those that are already enabled in Peñas Blancas, another border point with Nicaragua and Río Sereno on the border with Panama.
In addition, the Ministry of Labor reported that the fourth window is in the process of being implemented, in Paso Canoas, in the south of the country.
The windows are part of the Immigration Labor Traceability System (SITLAM), implemented with the covid-19 pandemic. Some 12,500 people are expected to enter the country in the coming months, 3,500 per tablet.
It is temporary income, since the worker returns to his country at the end of the harvest. The process for admission must be carried out by companies, upon request to the Ministry of Labor.
The SITLAM provides migrants with labor guarantees and grants them the status of regularity. The immigration document will be delivered 20 days after entering Costa Rica through one of the three windows at the border.
