Chelsea Handler said she “didn’t know” she was taking Ozempic
(CNN) — There has been a lot of talk recently about celebrities using Ozempic, a drug used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, to lose weight.
Chelsea Handler now shares that she was one of those celebrities, even though she didn’t know it initially.
During a recent conversation on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Handler said that her “anti-aging doctor just gives it to anybody.”
“I didn’t even know he was on it,” Handler recalled. “She said, ‘If you ever want to lose five pounds, this is good.'”
Ozempic is one of the drugs that has gained popularity through social networks as an effective way to lose weight quickly. But that has led to complaints that it is causing shortages for those who need it like part of your treatment for type 2 diabetes.
Handler said during the podcast that he injected himself with the drug after returning from a vacation in Spain. Days later, he went to lunch with a friend who was not planning to eat since she was currently taking Ozempic.
“And I was like, ‘I’m a little nauseous too,’ but I had just come back from Spain and I was jet lag,” Handler recalled.
She said that when her friend asked if she was sure she wasn’t taking Ozempic, Handler told her no, she was taking semaglutide.
Her friend then told her that semaglutide was the same drug as Ozempic, Handler said, adding that she no longer takes it because she thinks it’s “irresponsible” to do so.
“I’m an irresponsible drug user, but I’m not going to take a diabetes medication,” Handler said. “I tried and I’m not going to do that. That’s not for me.”
