Building collapse in the Dominican Republic leaves at least 10 people trapped and another 4 injured

(CNN) — At least 4 people suffered serious injuries and another 10 are trapped in the rubble of a building that collapsed this Wednesday in La Vega, Dominican Republic, the city’s Civil Defense confirmed to CNN affiliate News SIN. They added that the brigade members are working to rescue the people who are still trapped under the structure that housed Multi Muebles, a furniture and electrical appliance store.

The store said in a statement that two members of its team are still trapped.

And he added that the building was more than 30 years old and that it was in the process of changing the exterior glass on the first level. “The causes that caused the collapse of the structure are unknown. We await the intervention of an expert and the competent authorities to carry out the technical survey of the place. Our company regrets what happened,” they added in the statement.

Videos released by witnesses on social networks show how the roof of the Multi Muebles store completely collapsed and the building was reduced to rubble.
